Art-historical exposition
The exposition was publicly supported by the FOND NA PODPORU UMENIA (FUND FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE ARTS).
In the representative premises of the central part of the main mansion of the Sztáray family, the seat of the Zemplín Museum, permanent exhibitions of art history and sacral art are installed.
SACRED ART
The Zemplín Museum in Michalovce is one of a few Slovak museums documenting the development of iconography in our territory. Objects of sacred art - including icons - are part of the permanent art history exhibition of the ZM. A part of the central space of the 1st floor in the main mansion is dedicated to them.
There are collection objects of both liturgies - the Eastern rite and the Western, Latin Church.
Among the iconographic monuments, visitors have the opportunity to see, for example, the reconstruction of an incomplete iconostasis, or icons from the Rybotyč iconographic workshops.
The exhibited original set of 28 icons, presented on the reconstruction of the iconostasis (1780 - 1790), is an example of the influence of Western Baroque and Rococo painting on iconography.
The second part of the room is dedicated to sculpture. The wooden sculptures come from churches of the Western Rite. The rarest and oldest exhibit is a Gothic Pieta made of linden wood with remnants of the original polychrome, dated to the 1540s. It is one of the rarest of the collections of sacred art and art history.
PORTRAIT GALLERY OF THE SZTÁRAY FAMILY
Portraits of members of the noble Sztáray family and their relatives decorate the most representative room of the main mansion.
The Száray Family Portrait Gallery, a collection of portraits of members of the Száray noble family and their relatives, was acquired between 1958 and 1972. For the most part, the portraits are unsigned, created between 1725 and 1930.
PERMANENT EXHIBITION : THE LIFE AND WORK OF T.J. MOUSSON (1887-1946)
The central space on the 2nd floor of the main mansion is dedicated to the life and work of the "painter" of Zemplín - T. J. Mousson.
The Zemplín Museum in Michalovce has (owns and manages) the most comprehensive collection of paintings, drawings, photographs and objects from the master's estate. The work of T. J. Mousson's work is still being admired and discovered, and thanks to its artistic qualities it has long been given due attention and received appropriate recognition.
The remaning objects, drawings - sketches, watercolours are installed in the first room. The next room presents a painting by T.J.Mousson.
